The Intersection of New Creative Elements
Nguyễn Thùy Chi is a Lecturer, singer, Improviser and performer of traditional, contemporary and experimental music on the Vietnamese Pipa, Monochord (Dan Bau). Born and raised in Ha Tay, Vietnam, Nguyễn Thùy Chi began to study the Vietnamese Pipa at the age of 8 under her sister. At 10, Chi was admitted to Viet Nam national Academy of music where she specialized in Vietnamese traditional forms Chèo, Huế and Cải Lương as well as new music for Pipa. In 2014, she won an excellent fork singer prize at “Ca trù” national festival. She also won a Toyota scholarship for young music talents of Viet Nam. In 2015 she Graduated from Vietnam National Academy of Music with highest academic result (rank 1st). In 2016, she won a scholarship to the National Gugak Centre in Seoul, Korea where she studied the Korean traditional zither (Geomungo) and Pansori singing. Since 2014, Nguyễn Thùy Chi has studied an advanced course in free improvisation at Dom Dom, the Hub for Experimental Music and Art.
